The local Magnolia community threw its support behind new schools, with 63 percent of voters recently saying “yes” to the 2026 bond proposition.
The approved $465,688,326 single-bond proposition was developed after extensive community input. The bond focused on student instructional space, with 92 percent of the funding dedicated to facilities. The bond passed without an increase in the current $0.95 tax rate, which is one of the lowest rates in the greater Houston area.
The bond’s passage paves the way for construction of a new high school along the FM 1486 corridor, projected to open in 2030, and elementary schools #10 and #11, set to open in 2028 and 2029, respectively. Elementary #10 will be located less than three miles from Wildtree.
The bond also positions the fast-growing school district for future expansion to meet student needs and to address aging equipment and systems. Land acquisition, school buses, safety and security projects, and priority maintenance projects at schools also fall under the bond proposition.
Superintendent Dr. Jason Bullock calls the bond’s passing a monumental day for students and the entire Magnolia community.
“When we started this process, our goal was to listen first, and this result reflects a shared vision for our students’ future,” he said. “Thank you to our parents and the community for placing your trust in us. By investing in these new schools today, we aren’t just building classrooms; we’re ensuring that every student who walks through our doors has the space and the resources to thrive as our district grows.”
School district officials launched a listening tour to gain input from staff, parents, taxpayers, and community leaders on the proposed bond package. The tour included face-to-face meetings, ThoughtExchange engagement opportunities, and presentations on student enrollment growth.
While school zoning decisions rest entirely with the school district, the proximity of Elementary #10 to Wildtree could mean our young residents will attend the brand-new school. We will keep you posted as news is available.
